Moms, Memories & the Countdown to Summer
If you’re a mom in Greenville right now, chances are your calendar looks completely out of control.
And honestly? Same.
May in South Carolina is a whirlwind for families — especially those of us with kids in Greenville County Schools. Somehow every important event of the year lands within the same few weeks: field trips, field day, teacher appreciation week, final projects, awards ceremonies, sports banquets, dance recitals, graduations, dress-up days, Mother’s Day, Memorial Day plans, graduations and trying to lock in summer camps before everything fills up.
One minute you’re packing sunscreen and snacks for field day, and the next you’re helping glue something onto a poster board at 9:30 p.m. while searching your inbox for the spirit week theme you forgot about.
And somehow every event requires:
- a sign-up genius
- a themed snack
- a specific shirt color
- cash due tomorrow
- or a reminder email sent at 10:47 p.m.
Moms are the unofficial project managers of May....
We’re the ones remembering who needs cupcakes, who forgot their water bottle, which teacher loves gift cards, and which child is secretly nervous about standing on stage for their spring performance.
It’s exhausting sometimes. But it’s also incredibly sweet.
Because while the month feels chaotic, these are the moments our kids will remember someday.
One of the things I love most about raising a family in Greenville is how much this community comes alive during this season. The baseball fields are packed every night. Downtown is buzzing. Neighborhood pools are reopening. Saturday farmers markets are opening up. Families are outside again soaking up every bit of spring before the South Carolina heat fully arrives.
As both a mom and a realtor, I see all the time how much families are looking for more than just a house here. They want community. Great schools. Neighborhoods where kids can ride bikes and families can slow down together at the end of the day.
That’s part of what makes Greenville such a special place to call home.
And even in the middle of the craziness, there are these little moments that make you want to freeze time for just a second.
The elementary school hugs.
The field trip excitement.
The end-of-year performances.
The kids still wanting you there for everything.
Because these ordinary days quietly become the memories we treasure most.
One day the backpacks won’t pile up by the door anymore. The calendar won’t be overflowing with school events. And these beautifully hectic May days will be the ones we look back on and miss the most.
But for now? We survive May.
On coffee, calendar reminders, Chick-fil-A runs, and pure determination.
And then suddenly Memorial Day arrives, the backpacks get tossed aside, and summer finally begins.
Slower mornings. Pool days. Beach trips. Popsicles. Late sunsets. Less rushing.
Honestly? Bring on summer. ☀️
